HOOPs International Mission Statement

HOOPs International an organization based in upstate New York, the result of the vision of Roosevelt Bouie, All-American basketball player at Syracuse University and a 16-year veteran of the premier Italian basketball league. Roosevelt had a vision: utilize his unique skill set and connections in Europe to match former college players with professional teams overseas. The Carrier Dome on campus at Syracuse University evolved as the venue for a four-day event allowing coaches and general managers from overseas teams to scout, meet, and sign these players. HOOPs International has quickly grown to be much more than a multi-cultural, international basketball job fair with fans. We have determined that this organization's focus must be year-round, using former and current players to spread our message through our stories: basketball is a vehicle and a teacher, not an end.

With Syracuse University Professor William Coplin's article "Athletics leads to professional growth" (NCAA News, 11/10/03) as a guide, and players who have succeeded in basketball as our vehicles and stories, children and young adults in our community will see how basketball teaches communication, public speaking, instruction, organization, detail awareness, and much more. Psychologists believe ego growth is exponentially enhanced by proper use of organized sports.
